Gov. Abbott designates cartels as terrorist organizations
EL PASO, Texas -- Texas Governor Greg Abbott designated Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations in an executive order released Wednesday.
In the executive order Governor Abbott argues that cartels are to blame for the growing fentanyl crisis in Texas and across the U.S.
Governor Abbott said he wants to reclassify fentanyl overdoses and fentanyl poisoning and charge anyone providing the drug to someone who dies from it with murder. He also wants to identify gangs supporting the cartels, seize their assets, and disrupt cartel networks.
