County of El Paso migrant processing center opens Monday

EL PASO, Texas -- The County of El Paso's migrant processing center is set to open Monday, Oct. 10.

According to county officials, the center will be centrally located near the El Paso International Airport.

Officials previously told ABC-7 about 600 migrants would be processed at the center daily.

El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego said the center would create about 25-30 jobs. He said that number could increase depending on the need.

Judge Samaniego said he wants the processing center to be open long-term.

Migrants that go to this process center have a sponsor and a place to go.

The county's welcome center opened about one month after the City of El Paso opened its migrant processing center.

The opening of the county's processing center also comes as migrant influx continues in our region.
