Gadsden ISD increasing security at Chaparral High School after social media threat

EL PASO, Texas -- The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office are investigating after a social media threat was made against students.

Officials at Gadsden ISD told ABC-7, a student at Chaparral High saw the threat posted online and reported it to school administration.

District officials notified GISD Security. The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office were also alerted. Officials say parents were also made aware of the threat.

Additional security will be monitoring the Chaparral High campus Monday. Officials say they are taking this matter very seriously.

Special measures will be implemented on Monday for Chaparral High School.

Students will not be allowed to have bags or backpacks.

No Halloween costumes will be allowed.

All doors to classrooms and the campus will remain locked.

After school activities for Monday are canceled.

During class, students will be discouraged from leaving for the restroom. If a student needs to leave the classroom, they will be escorted.

District officials also said additional counselors will be assigned at CHS to work with students who may want to talk about the matter.

ABC-7 reached out to the Doña Ana County Sheriff about the situation.

Sheriff Stewart said it is not clear who the threat was made against. She said the threat was only made against CHS.

Stewart said DASO is working with the FBI.
