Power restored on NMSU campus, classes resume

Update: The power is now back on, according to the university. Classes starting at 2 p.m. or later will happen as scheduled.

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- The NMSU campus is experiencing a power outage Thursday.

El Paso Electric tells ABC-7 that a bird flew into a substation, causing the outage. Crews are currently working to restore power.

Most buildings on campus are without power, according to NMSU officials.

"All classes beginning at noon or 1 p.m. are cancelled campus wide, including online classes," a university spokesperson told ABC-7. "Some buildings are already coming back online."

We will provide updates when the power is restored.
