Investigators: Speed, alcohol contributed to East El Paso crash that killed a man

Update (October 16, 2023): El Paso Police say four cars were involved in the crash. Investigators say speed and alcohol contributed to the crash. Police have obtained an arrest warrant for 21-year-old Ft. Bliss resident Terry Randall Kinkade on an intoxication manslaughter charge and an intoxication assault charge. They are planning to arrest him after he is released from the hospital.

Investigators say an initial crash had caused traffic on Loop 375 to slow down. That's when officials say Kinkade's car slammed into 31-year-old Alonso Mario Lopez's car, which then set off a chain reaction that caused crashes with two other cars. Lopez died and his passenger was seriously injured, according to police.

A 45-year-old man in the third car was uninjured. A 22-year-old man was driving with a 2-year-old boy and two 1-year-old boys in the fourth car. They were all uninjured in the crash.

This is the 60th traffic fatality of this year, compared to 55 this time last year.
