Las Cruces police call shooting of Organ Mountain High student ‘negligent’ in nature

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- Las Cruces police tell ABC-7 the shooting that led to the death of a 14-year-old Organ Mountain High student is negligent in nature.

"We are still investigating the gun's origin and how the juveniles came to possess it," a police spokesperson said.

The department added there are no new charges at this point. Police previously arrested and charged a 15-year-old boy with involuntary manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm.

One week ago, people gathered outside Organ Mountain High School to honor the 14-year-old student who died. He was shot at a home on Calle Bella Avenue.

The boys were not identified by police because they are minors.
