Man arrested after British soldier was stabbed and seriously hurt in attack near barracks

LONDON (AP) — A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a British army officer was stabbed and seriously injured near a barracks in southeast England. Kent police said Wednesday that the victim, who is in his 40s, was in serious but stable condition. Police say the assailant acted alone and the stabbing on Tuesday was not believed to be an act of terror. Officers are investigating if it was related to the suspect’s mental health. Police say the suspect was arrested within a half hour of the stabbing. British police do not name suspects until they have been charged.
