Free fishing tournament for kids at Ascarate Park

EL PASO, Texas — El Paso children will have a chance to cast a line during a free fishing tournament at Ascarate Park this Saturday.

The Ascarate Fishing Club is hosting the event for children ages 3 to 16.

Families do not need to own fishing equipment to participate. Fishing poles will be available for children who need them.

The tournament will include prizes for different age groups and will operate as a catch-and-release event.

Bruce Brymer, area chief for Texas Parks and Wildlife and a member of the Ascarate Fishing Club, said the event is an opportunity for children and families to spend time outdoors and experience fishing.

The tournament is free to attend.
