Lightning strike causes more than 1,500 people to lose power; EP Electric

UPDATE (6:34 PM) -- A spokeswoman with El Paso Electric has provided ABC-7 with the following statement regarding the current outages:

Due to the storm, some of our equipment sustained damage from lightning. As of 6:33 p.m. We have restored most customers and are working on restoring the remaining 1,564 customers. Our crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore all customers affected by the storm.


El PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- As of 6:17 p.m., the outage map for El Paso Electric says that more than 1,700 customers are without power across the Borderland.

According to EP Electric, there are 27 outages that have occurred amid storms in the area.
