HOME begins demolition of former headquarters in South Central El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The Housing Opportunity Management Enterprises (HOME) has begun demolition of its former headquarters at 5300 E. Paisano Drive.

According to HOME officials, the building served the community for more than three decades, as the city’s main U.S. Postal Service facility and later operated as a philatelic center. In 2001, the Housing Authority of the City of El Paso converted the facility into its headquarters, where it served the organization and the El Paso community until 2019, when HOME relocated its headquarters to the Blue Flame Building in Downtown El Paso.

Demolition of the former headquarters is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

HOME officials say the demolition represents the first major step in preparing the site for future redevelopment as the entity is proposing a Class A affordable apartment community at the property that would include approximately 200 to 300 one- and two-bedroom apartment homes.

Construction of the proposed development is anticipated to begin in late 2027.

“The demolition of our former headquarters at 5300 E. Paisano marks the end of an important chapter in HOME’s history and the beginning of a new one,” said Gerald Cichon, CEO of HOME. “This property
served our organization and the El Paso community for many years, and we are excited about the
opportunity to reimagine the site in a way that responds to the changing needs of the surrounding area. As El Paso’s medical and educational district continues to grow, we see tremendous potential to bring high-quality, affordable housing to this important part of our community.” .
