Police say ‘man sitting on the I-10 bridge’ briefly closed a portion of I-10 East & West in Las Cruces

UPDATE (1:06 PM) -- The Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) confirmed to ABC-7 that a "man sitting on the I-10 bridge" near Union Avenue and Stern Drive briefly caused a portion of the highway to be closed.

According to LCPD, the man was sitting on the bridge on I-10 East near Union Avenue and Stern Drive. Officials say first responders were called out to the area around 10:20 a.m.

Officials said that police temporarily blocked a portion of eastbound I-10, and east and westbound traffic along Union near the bridge.

According to LCPD, trained personnel responded to de-escalate the situation and provide assistance to the man who was later taken into police custody.

Previous reports from the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) indicated that the area was closed due to a crash and police presence.

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) says that a crash has closed I-10 eastbound from mile marker 139 (NM 292) to mile marker 142, San Pablo (NM 478/MAIN ST.)

According to NMDOT, law enforcement is in the area.

As of this post, traffic is being diverted onto exit 139 (Motel Blvd). NMDOT also says the on-ramp at Exit 140 is closed.
