Massive fire in Montana Vista area recycling plant is not the first to happen there

Update: The fire has been put out.

Officials with the Horizon Fire Department said the fire happened at a recycling plant, and that it would not have taken so long to put out if there were fire hydrants readily available. However, since there are not hydrants in that area, firefighters had to go back and forth from the fire to a water source.

Residents that live nearby the plant told ABC-7, this is the second fire that's happened there in the last few months.

ABC-7 reached out to the El Paso County Commissioner for the area's precinct to ask about the lack of fire hydrants. We have yet to hear back. Check back for updates.

MONTANA VISTA, Texas (KVIA) -- A large column of smoke, visible for miles around, is rising from the Montana Vista area right now.

The Horizon Fire Department chief says the fire is burning at 3840 Rene.
