Man died trying to cross Dyer in Central El Paso, police say

Update (July 2, 2024): El Paso Police just identified the pedestrian who died as 50-year-old Jaime Lara Arenivas.

Special Traffic Investigators are still looking into the collision, police say.

Police say the driver of the car was traveling north on Dyer when Arenivas was crossing east to west on foot. The driver was unable to avoid hitting Arenivas, who later died from his injuries.

"The contributing factor to this collision was a pedestrian in the roadway," police officials stated Tuesday.

Police have not yet said if any charges will be filed or who, if anyone, was at fault for the crash.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Special Traffic Investigators with the El Paso Police Department is at the scene of a crash at Dyer and Sunrise in Central El Paso.

A police spokesperson says the collision involved a car and a pedestrian. It happened at 10:35 AM Monday, police say.

Emergency crews rushed the pedestrian to the hospital with serious injuries. ABC-7 has a crew going to the scene and is working to learn more.
