‘I killed my step-dad’: El Paso teen charged in murder
Update (January 14, 2025): Court documents reveal that officers had first visited the home where the alleged murder happened earlier that morning. An argument had broken out, but police left the house after confirming that no one had been injured.
About thirty minutes later, officers responded to the house again, this time after receiving reports of a stabbing.
Court documents state that witnesses told police Morales had grabbed a woman who was hanging out at the house, injuring her neck. Herrera had confronted Morales about his behavior, court documents state. That is when investigators say Morales pulled out a knife and stabbed Herrera's neck.
While talking to detectives at the police station, Morales claimed that Herrera had pushed his mother, causing him to become angry and carry out the stabbing. Court documents state that Herrera is Morales' stepfather and that Morales told police "I killed my step-dad." Morales' mother initially tried to take the blame, however, she later told police that Morales had been the one to stab Herrera.
Update (January 13, 2025): El Paso Police identified the victim as 40-year-old Angel Martin Herrera.
Officials say that officers arrested 19-year-old Raymundo Morales III, who was then charged with murder and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $650,000 bond.

Officials say the call to 911 came in as a domestic violence incident. Officers then arrived to find Herrera suffering from stab wounds. Emergency crews rushed him to the hospital, where he died.
"Investigators determined Morales had stabbed Herrera," a El Paso Police Department spokesperson stated Monday.
Crimes Against Persons Detectives are still looking into the stabbing, officials say.
