SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A U.S. official says the government believes the driver who crashed into the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco the day before did so “with malign intent.” Police haven’t shared details about the driver’s identity or motive for what the Chinese government has branded a “violent attack.” The man created a chaotic scene Monday when he rammed a car into the consulate’s lobby. A White House official said Tuesday that U.S. government officials have been in contact with Chinese foreign ministry officials. San Francisco police had not released the driver’s identity or a possible motive.
