House Republicans are mired in chaos after ousting McCarthy and rejecting Scalise. What’s next?

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. House has been without a leader for more than a week, as majority Republicans threw out Speaker Kevin McCarthy and refused to rally around his No. 2, Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise. On Friday, Republicans nominated Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, during internal party voting. But the chairman of the Judiciary Committee who is allied with Donald Trump fell short of the support that would be needed in an eventual House floor vote. Jordan worked to shore up backing as the lawmakers prepare to return Monday, but the path forward is still uncertain.
