MEXICO CITY (AP) — A wave of violence killed least 19 people in Mexico’s southwestern states of Guerrero and Michoacan on Monday. Authorities say a local security secretary and 12 police officers were shot dead in a town on Guerrero’s Pacific coast, while a community leader was slain in the state capital. Officials in neighboring Michoacan say an intense shootout killed at least five people and wounded two more. Officials are finding themselves increasingly endangered in the region, where several powerful drug cartels continue to fight for control. .
