Man arrested on multiple warrants in South-Central El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A 36-year-old man with outstanding warrants was arrested by the El Paso County Constable's Office, Precinct Three, on Tuesday, officials said. Authorities said he had warrants for assault on a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest.

Sergio Lorenzo Baez also allegedly failed to appear for a court hearing on Oct. 13.

The constable's office said a sergeant noticed Baez while patrolling the area around South Seville in South-Central El Paso on Tuesday. The sergeant knew about Baez' criminal warrants and approached him.

As the Sergeant approached closer to the residence, he saw Baez inside a locked chain-link yard with a woman and three pit bull dogs, officials said. The constable's office said the situation "posed a potential safety concern for the Sergeant carrying out his duties to execute the outstanding warrants."

According to the constable's office, the sergeant persuaded Baez to peacefully surrender after 15 minutes of negotiating. Baez was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Jail on his outstanding warrants.

His bond totaled $200,000.
