Searchers look for person reportedly swept away in Rio Grande

Rescue crews with the El Paso and Sunland Park fire departments were searching along the Rio Grande Sunday morning after reports of a person being swept away by the river current.

It happened around 8:50 a.m. near Racetrack Drive between Doniphan and McNutt.

Border Patrol helicopters also flew over the river looking for signs of the person.

After searching for about an hour, crews failed to locate a person or recover a body.

No other information was immediately available.
