Couple from Fort Bliss identified as motorcyclists killed in weekend collision with SUV

UPDATE: Police on Tuesday identified the two killed as motorcycle driver 21-year-old Alexander Todd Warchocki, of Fort Bliss, and motorcycle passenger 23-year-old Gladys Juliet Hernandez, also of Fort Bliss.

ORIGINAL REPORT:

Two motorcyclists died in a collision with an SUV at a busy west El Paso intersection on Sunday evening, police confirmed Monday.

The crash happened at 5 p.m. Sunday at N. Mesa Street and Resler Drive.

Investigators on Monday said it appeared the SUV was turning into a shopping center when it was struck by the motorcycle, which was traveling at a high rate of speed.

A driver and passenger on the motorcycle were ejected and killed, authorities said, but their identities were still being withheld Monday because relatives had yet to be notified.

Police said three people in the SUV, including a 3-year-old child, were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash was the first of two deadly traffic collisions on Sunday, the other involved what police believe was a drunk driving crash on the city’s eastside that killed a corrections officer and youth football coach.
