Socorro man killed after rollover crash in Hudspeth County

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a deadly rollover crash in Hudspeth County.

It happened just before 10 p.m. Sunday night on U.S. Highway 62/180, about six miles east of the Border Patrol check point.

A DPS spokesman identified the deceased as a passenger in the vehicle, 32-year-old Edgar Galvan Garcia of Socorro. Investigators said the driver, 39-year-old Adrian Serrano of El Paso, was critically injured and taken to a hospital.

Investigators said Serrano was driving a Hummer east on Highway 62/180 when he drove onto the shoulder of the road. He then overcorrected, and drove across the other side of the highway. That’s when authorities said the Hummer rolled over several times, ejecting both Galvan Garcia and Serrano.

Investigators said the men were not wearing seatbelts.

DPS has not yet indicated whether they think speed or alcohol may have been factors in the crash.
