October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s the perfect time for the woman – or man – in your life to get a mammogram. Early detection is the key to beating breast cancer.

One in 8 women in the US will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. In 2019, an estimated 268,600 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S. as well as 62,930 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer.

62% of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at a localized stage, for which the 5-year survival rate is 99%.
This year, an estimated 41,760 women will die from breast cancer in the U.S.

Charlie Swopes, the breast health navigator for The Hospitals of Providence, discussed breast cancer on ABC-7 at Four with Stephanie Valle.
