Influential El Paso civil rights attorney Enrique Moreno dies of cancer

The legal community is mourning the death of influential El Paso attorney Enrique Moreno.

Moreno died Thursday morning from complications related to cancer, fellow attorney Carmen Rodriguez confirmed to ABC-7.

Moreno was an attorney for almost 40 years and Rodriguez said he worked until the very end.

Moreno was an advocate for civil rights and also headed a group of prominent El Pasoans called the “Citizens Commission on Best Practices in Government.”

The group promoted values in public service in the wake of the corruption scandal that saw dozens of elected officials indicted about 15 years ago.

Most recently, Moreno was hired by the Mexican Consulate to represent the families of Mexican origin who were victims in the Walmart attack.
