EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The Department of Public Health reported two new Covid-19 deaths in El Paso County on Tuesday morning.

No new deaths had been announced in the previous three days. The death toll now stands at 60.

The victims were identified as two men, one in his 50s and another in his 70s. Both had underlying health conditions.

“We are again extremely disappointed to advise the public of the loss of two lives,” El Paso's Health Authority Dr. Hector Ocaranza said. “Last week’s three days of triple digit increases tells us that this virus is still active in our community. There is no vaccine for this disease and so we cannot be apathetic about taking care of our health and that of our loved ones."

With 17 new cases, the total number of confirmed cases now stands at 2,393 -- 998 cases are active. That's a decrease of 53 from Monday. The Department of Public Health reports that 1,335 El Pasoans have now recovered.

Hospitalizations decreased by six (106), but the number of those in intensive care increased by one (67). There are 21 patients on ventilators.
