East El Paso residents say their apartment complex is being vandalized by students during school day

EL PASO, Texas -- Residents say an apartment complex in east El Paso is continuously being vandalized by students from nearby Eastwood High School during the school day.

Elizabeth Rodriguez, a resident at the Eastridge Park apartment complex, has had her window broken twice by kids throwing rocks at her apartment in broad daylight.

Both times someone was home and saw a group of kids with backpacks walk back to Eastwood High School. During one of the window breaks, Rodriguez's 12-year-old daughter was at home when the rock came in and almost hit her as she was relaxing in their living room.

"They have no fear. They're just going to do property damage, but they could have hurt somebody and that's my concern," Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez contacted Ysleta Independent School District and Eastwood High School officials, but she said they told her that the school has no involvement in policing students when they are off campus.

ABC-7 reached out to YISD for comment about this issue and a district spokesperson responded with an email statement.

"It is accurate the school does not have jurisdiction over individuals off campus; however, we work closely with the El Paso Police Department when they investigate incidents reported by citizens," the statement read.

YISD also maintained that neither the district nor Eastwood High School officials had received any word of complaints about vandalism in the surrounding neighborhood.

ABC-7 was unable to independently verify if the vandalism at the apartment complex was being carried out by students.
