Now is the best time to apply for or renew your passport

EL PASO, Texas - The last three months of the year is perhaps the best time to apply or renew your passport. Maintaining a valid passport for both adults and children reduces the risk of missing a trip.

The U.S Department of State is encouraging U.S. citizens to stay prepared by knowing their passport’s expiration date and applying well before travel. The process for obtaining a U.S. Passport usually takes 4 to 6 weeks.

The El Paso public library has resumed application services at three branch libraries with no appointment required. The public library has been designated as a U.S. Department of State passport acceptance facility where staff can assist with forms and file paperwork with the Department of State. The libraries will accept all necessary documents and forward those to the U.S. Department of State for processing.

For more information on Passport Services, including a checklist of necessary documents and payment details, visit the Passport Services section at www.elpasolibrary.org.

If you currently have a passport and need to renew you can easily apply on the website at travel.state.gov. Renew your passport approximately nine months before it expires. Check the expiration date, because certain countries and airlines require passports to remain valid for up to six months after travel.
