WASHINGTON, D.C. (KVIA) -- Vice President Kamala Harris invited El Pasoan Cynthia Boyar Trejo to a reception at her residence in Washington, D.C. The event, hosted May 23, honored remarkable Latina mothers and leaders from across the country.

Trejo founded the In Her Element Foundation, a group aimed at fostering sisterhood between women who empower, support, and guide Latina women. Trejo received the invitation because a recent graduate of her Mentor-Ship Program, Crystal Saavedra, is now a member of the White House team. Trejo's eldest daughter joined her at the event.

"I have a renewed sense of purpose and motivation to continue the work we do at The Foundation," Trejo told ABC-7. "We are committed to breaking barriers, supporting the next generation of female leaders, and creating a more inclusive society where everyone, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status, has the opportunity to succeed."
