Drivers, pedestrians advised to stay away from flooded roads after storms

UPDATE (11:31 a.m.): The El Paso Fire Department said it received two sinkhole reports.

One happened near Brown Street and Murchison Drive in Central El Paso. EPFD said police and barricades blocked off the area.

A second sinkhole report came from Campbell Street and Myrtle Avenue in Downtown El Paso. The city's Streets and Maintenance Department is investigating.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Over the last few days, ABC-7 has been warning you about the rainstorms, and our ABC-7 first alert continues for the rain and severe thunderstorms around the borderland.

It has been raining since Tuesday afternoon when the flood watch was issued and the flood watch will remain in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday.

As of Wednesday morning, roads across the borderland are flooded and closed, such as Doniphan and Racetrack.

ABC-7 saw several cars stalled and towed after driving through high-rise water.

El Paso Fire strongly advises people not to walk through floodwater if possible, it can be deeper and faster than you think.

Keep your distance from other cars on the slippery roads and keep an eye out on the road for down power lines, trees, and of course, a higher rise of water.

El Paso Water is allowing customers to stop by one of two distribution centers to pick up free sandbags.

According to El Paso Water, both distribution centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day until Saturday.

They are advising customers to provide their texas ID or a recent El Paso Water bill to receive up to 10 free bags.
