Texas sees 8,000 new virus cases – highest daily total, more than doubling case counts in 2 weeks

AUSTIN, Texas -- After setting three straight single-day records last week, Texas has hit another grim milestone in Covid-19 cases.

On Wednesday, the state reported 8,076 new cases, the highest one-day total in Texas since the start of the pandemic - and more than doubling new case counts from two weeks ago.

The state also reported 57 new Covid-19 related deaths, which is the second highest single-day death count. The highest was on May 14 with 58 deaths.

In total, 6,904 Texans are now hospitalized; 12.1% of total hospital beds are currently occupied by virus patients.

So far, 2,174,548 people have been tested for the virus in the state, and the positivity rate is now at 13.58 percent.

El Paso on Wednesday surpassed 6,000 cumulative virus cases, and also saw hospitalizations reach another new record-high, jumping to 177.
