County Commissioners to discuss building El Paso’s own version of the ‘X’ sculpture in Ascarate Park
EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso County Commissioners Court will be discussing building a massive, new art sculpture at Ascarate Park.
This item was placed on Monday's agenda by County Judge Ricardo Samaniego. The agenda item states the county would work with the Mexican artist, Pedro Francisco Rodriguez, to create a monument.
The agenda item states the goal is to work with the El Paso Community Foundation to raise enough money for the project.
County documents did not specify how much the project would cost. However, Rodriguez said the monument would cost $3 million. He also said it would take one year to construct.
The proposed monument would be 130 feet tall and 130 feet wide. Rodriguez said the design is a "threshold" for a better future in this region.
The meeting will start at 9:30 a.m. Monday. This is a developing story. ABC-7 will update you once a decision is made.
