Questions remain in the aftermath of City Council’s vote to terminate City Manager’s contract

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- ABC-7 is working to obtain official statements from the members of El Paso's City Council who voted for terminating City Manager Tommy Gonzalez's contract.

The city council representatives that voted in favor of the termination are Brian Kennedy, Alexsandra Annello, Joe Molinar and Art Fierro. The vote was 4 in favor and four opposed, Mayor Oscar Leeser issues the tie-breaking vote to terminate the City Manager's contract.

District 1 Representative Brian Kennedy had responded to ABC-7's request for comment saying “I don’t discuss personnel issues.”

Mayor Oscar Leeser released this statement following the announcement Tuesday evening, “Today the City Council exercised its right to end the City Manager’s employment with the City of El Paso in accordance with his amended and restated employment agreement. I want to thank Mr. Gonzalez for his 8 years of service to the City. Mr. Gonzalez will receive a 120-day written notice as per his contract, and we will inform the public additional steps going forward once they are finalized. As always, I will proceed in the best interest of the citizens of El Paso.”
