2 cheerleaders were shot in a Texas supermarket parking lot

AUSTIN, Texas--- The man accused of shooting two teenage cheerleaders in Texas is facing deadly conduct charges.

Authorities arrested Pedro Tello Rodriguez Jr., 25. He was taken into custody early Tuesday, the Elgin Police Department said in a news release later that morning.

Rodriguez is accused of deadly conduct with a firearm, a third-degree felony. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Police say Rodriguez allegedly shot the cheerleaders in an Austin H-E-B grocery store parking lot just after midnight Tuesday.

Heather Roth says she and Payton Washington were carpooling from a cheer gym in Houston. When they arrived, Roth went to a car she thought was hers and opened the door. Only she had made a mistake, and it was not her car.

Rodriguez was sitting in the passenger seat. Roth says she apologized but Rodriguez exited the car and opened fire.

Officers responded just after midnight Tuesday. They found two people in a vehicle who’d been struck by bullets, police said, citing preliminary reports. One with serious injuries was rushed by helicopter to a hospital and was in critical condition, while the other was treated at the scene, the release said.
