El Paso man attacks person on I-10, falls into oncoming traffic

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A driver is dead after police say he tried to fight another person in his car before falling into traffic on I-10.

The dead person, identified only as a 29-year-old Hispanic man, was driving along I-10 going westbound when he struck the center median several times near the Reynolds exit.

Investigators say he got out of the vehicle and started to argue with his passenger. They say he tried to attack the passenger, lost his balance, fell backward into oncoming traffic, and was hit by two cars. He died on the scene.

This happened early in the morning on June 3. The passenger involved has not been identified.

Police say alcohol and the fact that the man exited his car on I-10 contributed to his death. No injuries were reported.

The victim has not yet been positively identified, according to investigators. Special Traffic Investigators are asking anyone with information on this incident to come forward.

This is the 30th traffic death of the year, compared to 29 this time last year.
