Actor Jim Caviezel headlining El Paso anti-abortion gala

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- On Wednesday, Borderland anti-abortion organization Southwest Coalition for Life announced its year-end gala, featuring keynote speaker Jim Caviezel.

Caviezel recently made headlines by starring in the lead role of box office sensation "The Sound of Freedom." The movie, which tells a fictionalized story of child sex trafficking, grossed $180 million, surpassing the new Mission Impossible and Indiana Jones films. Critics of the film have claimed that it promotes QAnon beliefs. The director, Alejandro Gómez Monteverde, denies those allegations.

Caviezel previously played Jesus in Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ." He is an outspoken religious figure who often speaks at Christian events, according to the event organizers.

Tickets are on sale now through November 30, 2023. "The Birth of Hope Pro-Woman Pro-Life" Gala is happening over two nights in two cities. The first night, December 14, will happen in El Paso. The second night, December 15, will happen in Las Cruces.

In a video announcement posted to YouTube, Mark Cavaliere with the Southwest Coalition clarified that the organization is actively fighting against several Las Cruces abortion clinics, including The Pink House, Jackson Women's Health Organization, Full Circle Health Center, and Women's Reproductive Clinic in Santa Teresa.

Several pro-abortion organizations, such as the Mariposa Fund, Lilith Fund, and others are actively fundraising to support abortion seekers in New Mexico and Texas.
