El Paso Film Festival shows promise in growing local film community

The El Paso film festival is back with over 80 new films and some special guests.

Experience the magic of independent film at the Plaza Theater in Downtown El Paso, featuring genres from documentaries to late-night scares and animated films.

Good Morning El Paso's Nicole Ardila joins EPFF Artistic Director Carlos Corral for a live preview on Tuesday morning.

EPFF will offer the chance to mingle with filmmakers, join workshops, and enjoy parties with Academy Award nominee and film editor Sandra Adair, head of Troublemaker Studios Nixon Guerrero, and more.

The festival is celebrating it's 9th year and continues to inspire and create opportunity through film in West Texas.

Their mission is to empower the growing community of filmmakers in the borderland through a professional foundation of storytellers and artists from which to learn, network and collaborate with.

Corral says the film festival's goal is to make El Paso a destination for independent filmmakers by becoming an Oscar-qualifying film festival.

The film festival is from Sept. 24-26, with events from morning to late night.
