Roberto Herrera named head football coach at San Elizario High School

SAM ELIZARIO, Texas -- The San Elizario Eagles have found their next head football coach, and they didn't have to look very far.

Roberto Herrera will lead the Eagles next football season after having served the last 2 years as defensive coordinator for the football program.

Herrera has 22 years of coaching experience. 

In 2018, Herrera was promoted to Defensive Coordinator where he led the defense to a 50 percent reduction in yards and points from the previous season. 

In 2019, the defense continued to improve and kept many games close and eventually produced 7 All-District team members.

Herrera’s defense was instrumental in leading the program to its first playoff appearance in 20 years.

Prior to arriving to San Elizario, coach Herrera, was the head football coach at Fabens I.S.D, from 2015-2017.

Coach Herrera also coached football for 17 years at Canutillo I.S.D. 

Herrera has made Texas State playoffs in 12 out of the last 15 football seasons at 3 different schools districts.
