Nick Gonzales selected 7th Overall by Pittsburgh Pirates

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico - Raise the Jolly Roger! New Mexico State baseball star Nick Gonzales is off to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Pirates selected Gonzales with the 7th overall pick in today's 2020 MLB Draft, making him the highest drafted Aggie of all-time.

Gonzales saw his draft stock skyrocket after winning Cape Cod League MVP in 2019, and the following it up with a National College Player of the Year Award win in 2020.

Gonzales can play both second base and shortstop, and now joins a Pirates organization that finished 69-93 in 2019.
