Community Champion: El Paso High School runner signs with Trinity University

EL PASO, Texas -- For Jacob Ontiveros, no obstacle was too much to overcome.

The recent graduate of El Paso High School is headed to Trinity University in San Antonio on an athletic scholarship.

Ontiveros was on the cross country team as well as the track and field team.

He helped lead the Tigers to their best finish in 6 years at the regional cross country meet.

Ontiveros was looking forward to the track and field season, but it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Even though the track and field season was cut short, Ontiveros was still able to catch the eyes of coaches at Trinity University.

Along with his athletic accomplishments, Ontiveros was also a star in the classroom.

He graduated in the top ten of his class, ranked 9th overall.

For his accomplishments in and out of the classroom, Ontiveros has named an El Paso Community Champion.

Community Champions is sponsored by Albertsons and the El Paso Community Foundation.
