NMSU Aggies get the better of in-state rival New Mexico, 21-9

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico - The New Mexico State Aggies defeated their in-state rival New Mexico Saturday night at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

The final score was 21-9.

It was NMSU's first win over the UNM Lobos since 2017.

A good defensive effort by the Aggies holding the Lobos to just 9 points and keeping the Lobos out of the end zone the entire game.

The Lobos would score the first points of the game following a field goal to go up 3-0.

However NMSU would score the first touchdown of the game courtesy of a touchdown pass from quarterback Gavin Frakes to Ahmonte Watkins.

NMSU would take just a one point lead into the half up, 7-6.

But the Aggies would score two more touchdowns in the third quarter, while holding the Lobos to just a field goal in the 4th quarter.

It was NMSU head coach Jerry Kill's first win in the Rio Grande Rivalry in just his first season at NMSU.

NMSU improves their record to 2-5 on the season.

They'll be back in action next Saturday when they host San Jose State.
