Aggies route NM Highlands, 101-52; Heiar gets first win as NMSU head coach

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico - The Greg Heiar era at New Mexico State has officially begun with a victory.

Monday at the Pan American Center, the NMSU Aggies opened their season with a dominate 101-52 win over New Mexico Highlands University.

NMSU starts their season 1-0.

It was the first win for NMSU's under their new head coach, Greg Heiar.

The outcome of the game was never in doubt with the Aggies taking a 21 point lead into halftime.

Four Aggies reached double figures in Monday's season opener.

NMSU's Issa Muhammad led the way in scoring for the Aggies putting up 20 points, while NMSU's Deshawndre Washington recorded a triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

NMSU will now turn their focus to their first road game of the season at nearby rival UTEP.

It will be Heiar's first Battle of I-10, and one that he hopes will lead to his team improving to 2-0.

Saturday's game tips-off at 7:00 p.m. from the Don Haskins Center.
