EL PASO, Texas - On June 28, the El Paso Athletics Hall of Fame will welcome eight new members.
Among them, is proud El Pasoan, Rick Hernandez.
Hernandez was nominated for induction into the hall of fame under the "Supporter of Athletics" category.
A well deserved honor for a man who has done so much for high school athletes in the Borderland.
In 1992, Hernandez helped start the Greater El Paso Football Showcase.
Now more than 30 years later, the organization continues to grow with Hernandez still serving as executive director.
The Greater El Paso Showcase is responsible for providing scholarships to not just athletes, but to other high school students in various organizations such as cheerleading, ROTC and members of the band.
At the end of the football season, the Greater El Paso Football Showcase hosts an all-star football game featuring the best players from across El Paso county.
They also host a high school football combine that provides El Paso area players with a chance to catch the attention of colleges in the area.
Hernandez will be formally inducted into the El Paso Athletics Hall of Fame during an induction ceremony June 28.
The event will be livestreamed at kvia.com.
