Canutillo bows out of playoffs with 44-0 loss to Emerson

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Canutillo Eagles gave it their best effort, but the Emerson Mavericks proved to be too fast and too physical for the Eagles to match up against.

Friday afternoon in Lubbock, the Emerson Mavericks defeated the Canutillo Eagles, 44-0 in the area round of the Class 5A division 2 playoffs.

Canutillo was looking to bring home their third straight area championship.

Emerson dominated from start to finish.

The Mavericks had a 27-0 lead at the half, while holding off Canutillo's offense from scoring any points.

Emerson will move on to the regional quarterfinals, while Canutillo ends their season with an overall record of 9-3.
