Notre Dame defeats Oregon State, 40-8 to win Sun Bowl championship

Update: Before a sold out crowd at the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish defeated the Oregon State Beavers, 40-8.

The Irish improve their Sun Bowl record to 2-0, while the Beavers lose their first Sun Bowl game, 2-1.

The first touchdown of the game would come by way of a pass from Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli to wide receiver, Jayden Thomas.

The Irish would take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter

The Irish had a chance to extend their lead with a field goal in the second quarter, but the kick was wide left.

Notre Dame's second touchdown of the game would come late in the second quarter courtesy of one a yard touchdown run by running back Jadarian Price.

Notre Dame extended their lead, 14-0.

In the third quarter, Notre Dame kicker Spencer Shrader would connect on a 44 yard field to extend Notre Dame's lead, 17-0

The game's third touchdown would once again come from the Irish.

Angeli threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Faison to once again extend the Irish lead, 24-0.

Following an Irish safety in the 4th quarter to make it 26-0, Notre Dame would again pad their lead after Angeli would throw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiyah Love.

Notre Dame was up 33-0.

Oregon State would finally get in the endzone following a 33-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ben Gulbranson to wide receiver Jimmy Valsin III.

After a 2-point conversion from the Beavers the score was 33-8, Notre Dame.

The Irish would again add to their lead on the ensuing possession following a 6-yard touchdown run from Chase Ketterer.

That made it 40-8 Notre Dame.

This was the first sold out Sun Bowl game since 2010 and the first game featuring two ranked opponents since 2008.

Notre Dame came into the matchup ranked 16th and will end their season with a 10-3 record.

Oregon State was ranked 19th and their season will end with an overall record of 8-5.
