Dollenmayer delivers late as Locomotive FC defeat Pittsburgh, 2-1; Locos extend win streak to five
EL PASO, Texas - El Paso Locomotive FC defeated Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC 2-1 on Wednesday night, earning three points and moving into second place in the Western Conference.
The first half ended scoreless, with both sides creating a handful of chances, but neither side able to find the back of the net.
El Paso came closest when Amando Moreno fired a close-range shot that forced a quick save from the Pittsburgh goalkeeper.
Pittsburgh opened the scoring in the 53rd minute, with Robbie Mertz slotting the ball into the far corner to give Riverhounds a 1-0 lead.
Just four minutes later, Locomotive responded. Palermo Ortiz fired a long-range shot that took a deflection off Eric Calvillo before bouncing into the back of the net to level the match at 1-1.
The game settled down after El Paso’s equalizer, with both teams continuing to battle back and forth as they looked for the go-ahead goal.
El Paso found the game winner in dramatic fashion in the third minute of stoppage time. Noah Dollenmayer met a cross from Zyen Jones, heading the ball into the back of the net in the 90+3’ to secure all three points for El Paso.
Locomotive finish out the two-game home stand on Saturday, August 29, hosting Loudoun United for Star Wars night. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm MT.
