UTEP Miners rally to win first game at renovated Memorial Gym

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The UTEP Miners defeated NMSU in their first game at a newly renovated Memorial Gym.

Head coach, Ben Wallis, refers to the fans as "memorial maniacks" and they brought all of the energy to a fresh Club Memorial.

The Miners rallied to win in a thrilling five-set match. Outside hitter Landry Braziel helped lead the way for UTEP with 12 kills. Outside hitter Mackenzi Davis followed right behind adding 11 kills.

Coach Wallis was proud of his teams ability to gel on the court. "A lot of young freshmen went out there along with the good veterans, and our veterans and our freshmen together made the plays at the end. That's really awesome."

With their first win of the season they now look to carry that momentum forward.

"That takeaway for us is that I'm not lying and that they just got to trust me and trust each other. We can a go to practice, and we will really take this and roll this into practice on how we hit the ball and how we physically stop people. I like my group."

They now will hit the road to take on the Texas State Bobcats September 3rd at 4PM.
