UTEP Athletics

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) --The UTEP Miners came up short Saturday night, falling 17-14 to Hawai’i at the Sun Bowl.

After trailing 10-7 at halftime, UTEP stayed within striking distance, but the Rainbow Warriors held on to secure the three-point Mountain West victory.

The Miners found the end zone twice, including a second-quarter rushing touchdown from running back L.J. Sperling. UTEP added another touchdown in the fourth quarter but couldn’t complete the comeback.

The loss drops UTEP to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in Mountain West play.

The Miners will look to bounce back next Saturday when they host Wyoming at the Sun Bowl.
