One-on-one with UTEP’s Dana Dimel; Miners hit the road to take on Northwestern

EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP Miners will look to continue and wide the wave of momentum when they head to Big Ten country to take on the Northwestern Wildcats.

UTEP is 1-1 on the season coming off their first win of the season against Incarnate Word.

Miners will now look to get their first road win of 2023.

UTEP is favored by one-and-half points in the game against Northwestern, which is rare considering Northwestern is a program out of a Power 5 conference.

ABC-7 spoke with UTEP head football coach Dana Dimel about the upcoming matchup.

The Wildcats have had some issues both on and off the field.

The team lost their season opener last week against Rutgers, 24-7.

The Northwestern football program also underwent a complete overhaul during the off-season after the team's head coach was fired following allegations of hazing and racism within the program.

UTEP has never beaten a Power 5 program in football in the modern era.

They'll look to change that when they take on the Northerwestern Wildcats Saturday at 1:30 p.m. (MT).

The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
