Man shot by El Paso Police after throwing rocks at officers

EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso Police officers were forced to fire their weapon at a man Friday morning after police say he was throwing objects like rocks at officers.

It happened on the intersection of Montana and Cotton in central El Paso.

Police said around midnight officers were called to the 1900 block of Montana regarding an incident with several people. While they were questioning those individuals, the two officers that responded noticed a man in his 50s throwing objects like rocks in the area and at vehicles.

When the officers approached him, the man began to throw the objects at officers and did not listen to their commands to stop.

Officers were forced to fire their weapons. It's unclear how many shots were fired. The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

One of the officers was also taken to a local hospital but is in stable condition.

The two officers will now be placed on administrative leave. No other information was provided.
