New Mexico State Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Alamogordo, NM

UPDATE - New Mexico State Police have released new information regarding the officer-involved shooting Saturday morning.

At 7:09 a.m. Alamogordo Police and Otero County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the 1000 block of 16th Street to a single-vehicle crash, according to a press release from NMSP.

Witnesses reported to state police that the driver got out of the vehicle and break into a nearby house. Then the suspect was seen trying to break into an SUV, before taking off on foot.

Police have identified the suspect as 37-year-old Robert Gutierrez Jr, of Alamogordo.

According to the press release from NMSP, Alamogordo Police and a sergeant from the Otero Sheriff's Office gave commands to Gutierrez, who police said was armed with a gun.

Gutierrez was then shot by officers, New Mexico State Police have reported that the injuries are not life-threatening.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA)- New Mexico State Police said they are investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Alamogordo Police Department and Otero County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened on Hawaii Avenue in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

NM State Police said the officer and deputy are okay and the suspect is injured. 

More information will be released when available.
