Fort Bliss MWR supports military community

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — Fort Bliss Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation offers dozens of programs and services aimed at improving quality of life for soldiers, families, retirees and civilians.

Monica Thomas, marketing manager for Fort Bliss MWR, visited ABC-7 to discuss the organization and the resources available to the military community and the public.

Fort Bliss MWR operates 47 facilities with more than 900 employees. Its programs range from child care and youth activities to sports, fitness, outdoor recreation and aquatics.

Child and Youth Services provides recreational and educational programs for children from 6 weeks to 18 years old. MWR also offers more than 40 sports leagues and special events throughout the year.

Other recreational opportunities include swimming pools, a golf course, bowling, outdoor trips and equipment rentals. Army Community Service also provides resources for soldiers and families, including financial and employment readiness assistance and support during military moves.

Fort Bliss MWR hosts several community events throughout the year, including Pop Goes the Fort, Oktoberfest and its annual Christmas tree lighting.

Thomas said many Fort Bliss MWR facilities and events are also accessible to members of the general public with a Fort Bliss Community Pass.
